Call for Papers

Palgrave-MacMillan Publishers has announced a new book series on the Basic Income Guarantee. The Basic Income Earth Network has issued a call for book proposals. I will be writing a proposal for a collection of essays including one of my own based upon this paper (short version, long version) which intends to forge a bridge between Austrian and Market Socialist economics.

This is a call for papers to be part of the collection I will be putting together. I intend for the collection to open a dialog between Austrian and Market Socialist economists as well as between libertarian and left-leaning political scientists and policymakers. The dialog begins with the question: "Can't we all agree that a truly free market system with a generous basic income would be better than what we have today? Better, for example, than the corporate welfare, foreign policy imperialism, and dominant multinationals? Or better than the vast inefficient public programs, corporatist programs, and transfer schemes? Or, if not, why not? And, If these two 'polar-opposite' schools could come together on this, couldn't it potentially be very powerful?"

The collection will be structured as follows:

Introduction

Part 1: For the Basic Income - essays in favor of a basic income guarantee, relying upon Austrian and Market Socialist theory and arguments (about 4 or 5, including my own).

Part 2: Against the Basic Income - essays criticizing the basic income guarantee, including essays rebutting the proposals in part 1, relying upon Austrian theory and taking account of Market Socialist arguments or the reverse (about 4 or 5)

Part 3: Rejoinders - essays from the authors of part 1 and others replying to crticism raised in part 2 (about 2 or 3 probably)

Conclusion

I intend to write the introduction and conclusion. I would like to see both theory and policy in this collection, and I particularly urge those with interest in Austrian economics, Market Socialism, left-libertarianism, and "bleeding heart libertarianism" to consider contributing to this book. If you are interesting in contributing an article for part 1, please email me with a short abstract. If you might be interested in contributing to part 2 or 3 please email me, no abstract necessary. liberty - at - economicliberty.net
